Canada settles historical agricultural benefit claims with First Nations communities

The Canadian government recently announced settlements with several First Nations communities, addressing longstanding agricultural benefit claims.

Fourteen First Nations communities received settlements, including the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation, James Smith Cree Nation, Little Black Bear First Nation, Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation, and Pelican Lake First Nation, among others.

Once fully resolved, the total compensation for these claims will reach approximately $1.72 billion.
