Press Release
FREDERICTON – Employer applications for the Student Employment Experience Development (SEED) program will be accepted between Jan. 6 and Feb. 7.
“The SEED program is an important government investment in our students and our communities,” said Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour Minister Alyson Townsend. “This annual funding provides more opportunities for students to gain crucial workplace experience while helping employers create jobs through a wage subsidy.”
Non-profit organizations, First Nations communities and municipalities may access the applications and other information on the program online at www.NBSEED.ca. A SEED placement can last up to 12 weeks and must take place between April 21 and Sept. 5.
Applications will be evaluated for eligibility by the department, and approval for SEED funding will be made in consultation with MLAs based on the priorities of their electoral districts.
Employers approved for SEED funding will be notified by March 28 and their job postings will be listed online. Students seeking employment may apply directly to employers using the contact information in each job posting.
Last year,1,238 SEED positions were filled by students and 774 employers accessed the wage subsidy.
Students are also encouraged to apply for federally funded summer jobs, and to look at employment opportunities on NBjobs.ca.
Any employer having human resource challenges, including in recruiting workers, is encouraged to contact their regional WorkingNB office and speak to a workforce consultant.
