Clear-cutting was discovered accidentally in March by Wahgoshig band members on a routine visit to Eades and Hospital Point
Roadblocks were set up yesterday on the logging roads leading to Hospital Point, Eades and Low Bush — located on the north shore of the Abitibi River, east of Iroquois Falls — to protest the clear-cutting of traditional Aboriginal burial grounds by the forestry giant, Abitibi Consolidated Inc. (ACI).
The clear-cutting was discovered accidentally in March by a few Wahgoshig band members on a routine visit to Eades and Hospital Point.
“There is no other alternative,” said Liz Babin, Wahgoshig band manager, adding that the meetings have been fruitless.
