Aboriginal Council of Lethbridge Looking For $100000 in City Funding – 94.1 CJOC-FM

April 30th 2014

The Executive Director with the Aboriginal Council of Lethbridge hopes the organization can receive some emergency funding from the City to continue operating one of its programs.

The Aboriginal Council of Lethbridge will work with the City to try and secure emergency funding to continue operating its Community Capacity Building Program. The organization hopes to secure $100,000 to keep the program operating after federal funding was cut recently. Aboriginal Council Executive Director Jacinda Weiss says it still has to be determined if the program qualifies for financial aid from the City. She believes it’s a matter of process in the hope of getting their services back in order. Weiss came before City Council Monday (Apr. 28) asking for financial assistance. But the only action Council took was directing the Mayor to write the Federal Government to request transitional funding for Aboriginal Programs in urban communities. – Bryan Jeannotte
