Air Canada Partners with National First Nations Coalition

Press Release

October 12, 2023 (Coast Salish Territory) – The First Nations Major Projects Coalition (FNMPC) is pleased to announce Air Canada as the Travel Partner of its Sustaining Partners Program. The program furthers FNMPC’s ability to advance relationships between its members and the private sector on issues of mutual interest. Air Canada, along with existing program members CIBC, Cenovus Energy, Colliers Project Leaders, COWI, Gowling WLG, IBI Group, Kiewit, New Gold Inc., and Pattern Energy benefit from an exclusive relationship with FNMPC that focuses on advancing progressive Indigenous business initiatives between the partners and FNMPC members.

“I am pleased to welcome Air Canada as a Sustaining Partner, and I know Air Canada shares FNMPC’s vision to advance Indigenous participation and business initiatives, and to support long-term sustainable opportunities that enhance our economy, says Chief Sharleen Gale, Chair of FNMPC. “The commitment made by our national airline leader to join the FNMPC Sustaining Partners group supports our most important work. It allows FNMPC to create pathways to reconciliation by working closely with a select group of private sector partners who share our vision for meaningful Indigenous inclusion in the economic mainstream of Canada.”

“Air Canada is proud to support the Indigenous led work of FNMPC in helping to build a stronger and more resilient Canadian economy,” says Brad Sutherland, National Manger, Business Development at Air Canada. “For the last 6 years, Air Canada has been rated one of Canada’s Top Diversity Employers in Canada. As an organization, we understand that diversity is critical to our success, ensuring that the cultural sensitivities of customers are respected while stimulating creativity and passion in our workforce. Through our support of a number of organizations including FNMPC, Air Canada is working to build a renewed relationship with Indigenous Peoples through the spirit of reconciliation.”

Created by FNMPC in 2021, the Sustaining Partners Program enhances FNMPC’s mandate to build bridges between its national First Nation membership and corporate Canada. As a Sustaining Partner, Air Canada will participate in FNMPC’s annual conference and benefit from an exclusive working relationship with FNMPC, specifically designed to advance stronger business relationships with Indigenous communities outside of a project-specific environment.
