Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 unanimous in opposition to the passing of Ontario Bill C-5 – NetNewsLedger

June 2, 2025

KENORA – NEWS – Throughout the Spring National Assembly in Niisaachewan First Nation the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 voiced unanimous opposition to Ontario’s proposed Bill C-5. This opposition stems from the proposed legislation to empower Ontario government with unilateral decision making.

It is the firm position of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 that as holders of a sacred relationship with the Crown through Treaty #3 that inherent and treaty rights must be respected in any activities impacting the Territory of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3.

The Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 stands strong alongside all our relatives in support for this opposition to Bill C-5. The Office of the Ogichidaa encourages Treaty #3 leadership and membership to attend a peaceful rally being hosted by Robinson Huron on Monday June 2 from 12:30-4 p.m. at Queen’s park in Toronto to share this public stance against the Bill. If you are unable to attend, please feel free to organize local public stances in community and local MPP offices.
