The Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs (Assembly) would like to congratulate and welcome Chief Annie Bernard-Daisley of We’koqma’q as their new Co-Chair.
On April 8, the Assembly called an election for the position of Co-Chair, and Chief Bernard-Daisley was the successful candidate to represent the Unama’ki communities as Assembly Co-Chair and is the first woman to hold this role.
“We are pleased to welcome Chief Bernard-Daisley as our new Co-Chair for the Assembly,” said Chief Sidney Peters, Assembly Co-Chair. “She has been an asset to the Assembly table and having her now, as my Co-Chair counterpart, is exciting for all of us.”
Chief Bernard-Daisley brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience, having served as a Councillor of the We’koqma’q Mi’kmaw Community for three terms, as President of the Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association and as Chief of her home community since 2020.
At this meeting, the Assembly also restructured their portfolio systems, appointing Co-Leads to a number of their portfolios. This includes:
