Amid ongoing concerns over built-in limits to its investigative powers, International Trade Minister Mary Ng heads to the SUBCOMMITEE ON INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS to offer her — and her government’s — perspective on the role of the Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise, which, as iPolitics reported earlier this month, “is set to begin receiving complaints in the coming weeks, (but) won’t have the power to force firms to turn over information if they refuse to do so during an investigatory review.” (6:30 – 8:30 PM)
Also making the rounds at committee today: Seniors Minister Deb Schulte, who will field questions on the latest estimates package during an afternoon appearance at HUMAN RESOURCES. (3:30 – 5:30 PM)
Meanwhile, FINANCE members are set to kick off the final stage of their lightning-round review of Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland’s omnibus bid to implement measures outlined in her fall fiscal statement, which is on track to begin clause-by-clause review this afternoon. (4 – 6 PM)
