Job Summary

Employee Experience and Engagement Advisor
Regular, Full-Time, Burnaby
Management Band 2 – Salary range: $65,600.24- $90,900.08 annually

The Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is responsible for the wholesale distribution and retail sale of beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis. In 2018/19, the LDB recorded gross sales of $3.6 billion, generating a net income of $1.104 billion that supported vital public services, including health care and education. It has a workforce of approximately 4600 employees working across 197 BC Liquor Stores, a growing number of BC Cannabis Stores (online and stand-alone), a Head Office, three Wholesale Customer Centres, and three Distribution Centres. The LDB is led by a General Manager and CEO who is responsible for administering the Liquor Distribution Act and the Cannabis Distribution Act, subject to direction from the Minister. As part of BC’s mixed-model retail system for liquor and non-medical cannabis, the LDB is committed to providing customers with an enhanced shopping environment, an expansive product selection, and a high level of service.

The Employee Experience & Engagement Advisor is responsible for the delivery and oversight of a full suite of employee engagement solutions, including employee surveys, programs, processes and other enrichment activities that reinforce the company culture and help to achieve business objectives.

This role resides within the Organizational Development and Change team within Human Resources and partners directly with the business leaders to enhance employee engagement by improving the employee experience and value proposition.

Qualifications

Education & Experience: 

Degree (preferred) or Diploma related to Communications, Business Administration, Human Resources or  equivalent discipline. Applicants with an unrelated Degree or Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution will be considered if they have obtained related certifications or are actively pursuing related continuous education).

Applicants must have a minimum of 3 (three) years of recent, related experience leading employee engagement, culture and/or recognition programs in organizations with a large/diverse employee base.

Recent, related experience includes:

  • Experience with developing an internal employee engagement strategy and executing initiatives which build engagement in a dispersed workforce.
  • Experience planning, coordinating and executing large events and campaigns.
  • Experience in designing, planning, implementing and sustaining initiatives from abstract concepts.
  • Experience in communications.
  •  Hands-on experience in graphic design or designing creative marketing material for events/campaigns.

Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience in issues management.
  • Experience in developing and rolling out diversity/inclusion strategies.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of recognition platforms.
  • Knowledge of engagement survey process.
  • Understanding of effective communications metrics and measurement.
  • Satisfactory knowledge of graphic design tools.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to create high-quality deliverables and tell stories with data.
  • Managing competing, high-priority demands, prioritizing workload, managing projects and multiple responsibilities against strict deadlines.
  • Translating strategic goals/concepts into action plans and implementing initiatives at an operational level.
  • Developing and delivering effective, engaging internal communications.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal/collaboration skills. Ability to establish credibility/rapport with senior stakeholders enterprise-wide.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills. Able to adjust communication style based on the audience, from front-line employees to executive directors.
  • Ability to interface and influence senior business leaders, lead internal consulting projects and partner effectively with business partners.
  • Ability to leverage HR data to create effective strategies.
  • Ability and skill in creative and innovative thinking.
  • Ability to deal and communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to deal courteously, tactfully and diplomatically with other employees and the general public.
  • Advanced skills in standard office software (MS Office) including spreadsheets (e.g. Microsoft Excel) and database applications, to create and maintain datasets, perform analyses and create reports.
