The Attorney General is the legal advisor to the government of British Columbia and is charged with ensuring that the administration of public affairs is carried out in accordance with the law. The Ministry of Attorney General is structured to carry out this mandate under the direction of the Attorney General, and Legal Services Branch (LSB) supports the Ministry in fulfilling this mandate by serving as legal advisor to government in civil law matters. LSB provides legal advice to government and ensures that legal risks associated with government operations are reduced. LSB’s clients include all ministries of the government, Cabinet and certain public agencies.

This position provides complex and challenging procurement & contract management in a legal environment and is responsible for developing, recommending, interpreting, implementing and monitoring corporate policy with respect to the planning, tendering, award and administration of general and legal contracts, including monitoring and evaluation.  The position provides expertise and direction as well as technical and professional advice supervising two business areas responsible for administering legal contracts & retainers by LSB.

This position provides procurement and contract management advice and information to LSB Executive, Legal Counsel, Executive Directors, Directors and other members of LSB.  As LSB is a shared service provider for government, this position may also be required to provide reports, analysis and other information to the clients of LSB as well as other departments including the Ministry’s Corporate Management Services Branch, Office of the Comptroller General, Office of the Auditor General, Risk Management Branch and other government departments.

Job Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

• Degree in business administration, commerce, public administration, finance, law or equivalent.

• Experience in the full procurement life-cycle and analyzing complex issues, evaluating options and recommending solutions.

• Experience advising a diverse client caseload on contract management and procurement in a risk-based environment.

• Experience negotiating/mediating solutions preferably in a public-sector environment.

• Two (2) years of experience leading staff and managing resources.
