Bruce County To Review Indigenous Reconciliation Initiative Update – Bayshore Broadcasting News Centre

June 17, 2024

Bruce County Council will be receiving an update this week on the Indigenous Reconciliation Planning Initiative.

The update details the actions taken after the county started working through the initiative in January 2022.

Some of the actions include the phased ongoing delivery of training courses and the development of a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

A report from CAO Christine MacDonald says the culmination of the RAP is presented in the Indigenous Reconciliation Framework and the Saugeen Anishnaabek Reconciliation Pathway and Action Plan.

The framework acts as a guiding document for the county’s efforts towards reconciliation with Indigenous people, as county staff and leaders receive cultural awareness training and chances to deepen their knowledge and understanding of Indigenous people and culture. It also assists with the development and implementation of ways for reconciliation.
