Bruce Power and its supplier partners have invested thousands of dollars into assisting Indigenous communities this holiday season.

Food banks in Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation received about $12,000 each, while also sharing $2,500 in grocery store gift cards to hand out to local families.

The communities also received hundreds of items of new and gently used warm winter clothing, which was donated by Bruce Power employees as organized by the company’s Indigenous Network, an organization that brings together Indigenous employees to organize activities that raise cultural awareness and engagement both at work and in the community. The Supplier Sponsorship Program also donated $7,000 to purchase additional winter clothing for the communities.

Toy drive and hamper programs at Saugeen and Nawash also received $2,000 each from Bruce Power’s online fundraiser, while the Kabaeshiwim Respite Women’s Shelter received $3,500 to make the season brighter for its clients. Other community members will also be reached through a donation to the Dorrell Young Christmas Program, operated by the County of Bruce.

Bruce Power and suppliers also donated more than $50,000 in grocery store gift cards to be distributed through local schools, through which many families in Saugeen and Nawash will receive a gift.

“Bruce Power and its suppliers recognize the need is great this holiday season in the Indigenous communities,” said Adam Kahgee, Bruce Power’s Director of Indigenous Relations. “We are grateful to the members of the community who give their time to helping others and assist us in reaching these families in need through our holiday giving program.”
