Canada-EU Summit Highlights Seal Product Ban Debate – VOCM

The topic of seal products being banned for sale in the European Union was broached during the recent Canada-EU summit in St. John’s, but the leaders have opposing views on the topic.
Top leaders from the EU joined Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for the event, held at The Rooms.
Trudeau says they discussed many topics during the meetings, and notes that the discussion around seal products is ongoing.
Trudeau admits that the topic of seal products is a point of contention, but says they will continue to work on the issue.
President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, meanwhile, believes a “good balance” has been found on seal products
She says there is an exception for products that come from Indigenous hunts, and she believes that system is working well.
