Canadian Open Data Summit held in the North

Press Release

09/11/2022

Minister of Highways and Public Works Nils Clarke and Minister of Economic Development Ranj Pillai welcomed delegates from across Canada, both virtually and in person, to the Canadian Open Data Summit that was held in Whitehorse this week. This was the first time the Summit has been held in Canada’s North.

This annual summit was an opportunity for open data practitioners and advocates from the private sector, not-for-profit organizations and all levels of government to continue to work together to address the most pressing challenges facing the open data community. It also provided an opportunity for them to share their unique insights, experiences and achievements.

This year’s summit focused on three key themes:

  • data-driven innovation, entrepreneurship and economic development;
  • Indigenous data sovereignty; and
  • open data on the front lines of climate change.

It is great that our territory was able to host the Canadian Open Data Summit, marking the first time this summit has been held in the North. These past two days have been a forum where open data practitioners from across the country could learn from one another and share unique perspectives on how we can continue to use open data to benefit all of our communities.

Minister of Highways and Public Works Nils Clarke

The Canadian Open Data Summit is an excellent opportunity for leaders in the technology and innovation fields to gather, share ideas and inspire one another. Our government is committed to working side by side with other members of the open data community to build a prosperous economy that supports innovative businesses, entrepreneurs and Yukoners.

Minister of Economic Development Ranj Pillai
