Carney hits the NATO circuit with ‘a plan to lead’ amid renewed call to boost defence spending – iPolitics

A day after signing a wide-ranging new agreement with the European Union that, as Canadian Press reports, is being billed as the launch of “a new era of transatlantic co-operation,” Prime Minister Mark Carney heads to The Hague to begin a second round of high-level closed-door talks with NATO counterparts.

According to the advisory released by his office last week, “Canada will arrive (at the summit) with a plan to lead, and with new investments to build our strength in service of our values,” while for his part, Carney intends to “engage (NATO) allies to meet evolving threats in a more dangerous and divided world,” including — but not limited to — backing continued support for Ukraine “to achieve an just and lasting peace.”
