Celebrate Haitian independence on Jan. 6 – Winnipeg Free Press

Jan. 3, 2024

The Haitian community has grown in Manitoba in recent years but, since it does not sponsor public cultural events, many people are not aware of Regroupement des Haïtiens du Manitoba. That is about to change thanks to Suzanne Chrispin, a board member and manager of special projects with the organization.

On Jan. 6, RDHM will publicly celebrate Haiti’s 220th anniversary of independence at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, with an event titled Haiti: Ses citoyens et son histoire (Its citizens and its history).

According to Suzanne, the association chose to celebrate the universality of human faith in equality, a value that is at the heart of Haiti’s motto — freedom, equality, fraternity for all.

“We have assembled a roster of authentic speakers from diverse communities including La Société de la Francophonie Manitobaine, from the Indigenous community, political leaders, our own members, and more, to share their experience of their engagement with these values,” she said.
