Celebrating Small Business Week 2013

YELLOWKNIFE (October 21, 2013) – October 20-26 is Small Business Week across Canada and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) will help celebrate by hosting events and providing learning opportunities to assist small business owners and encourage future small business start-ups.

The GNWT supports small- and medium-sized businesses through various programs run by the Department of Industry, Tourism and Investment (ITI) and the NWT Business Development and Investment Corporation (BDIC).

“We are invested in helping small businesses succeed, and they are a crucial element of the NWT economy,” said Minister of ITI David Ramsay, who is also responsible for the BDIC. “When I talk to entrepreneurs throughout the territory, I am impressed with their determination, resilience and hard work. Although our economy is constantly changing, our small business owners evolve right along with it.”

This year, the BDIC has a number of events planned to celebrate small businesses in the Northwest Territories, including small business learning sessions and an open house on October 22nd.

The BDIC is an independent Crown Corporation that supports the economic objectives of the GNWT by encouraging the creation and development of business in the NWT. The BDIC offers financial assistance to small businesses through contributions and loans. It also offers a number of learning services through the NWT Canada Business Service Centre.
