Chief hopeful for the future – The Chronicle Journal

The chief of Fort William First Nation is hopeful for the future of indigenous people in Canada.

“I’m an optimistic guy,” said Chief Peter Collins during Tuesday’s National Aboriginal Day celebration at Prince Arthur’s Landing.

“I always look to the positive things in our future. We have built strength with Fort William and the City of Thunder Bay. We want to be the leading edge of that so we can show people that there is time for change, there is the right movement for change and we can build positive relationships as we go forward again.”

This year marks the 20th anniversary of National Aboriginal Day in Canada and Collins said it’s recognition of indigenous people, but they don’t want just their culture and language acknowledged.
