Co-operating to Grow Economy Focus at Council of Atlantic Premiers Meeting

Building regional co-operation to enhance Atlantic Canada’s economic competitiveness and create jobs will be the focus as Premier Stephen McNeil meets with his counterparts at the annual meeting of the Council of Atlantic Premiers.

The meeting takes place in Saint John, New Brunswick, on May 25 and 26.

“Finding common ground on issues that affect the future of jobs and growth in our region is key for Atlantic Canada to take advantage of new opportunities for economic success,” said Premier McNeil. “I am looking forward to exploring ways we can work together to deliver on the priorities that matter to Nova Scotians.”

The premier will join his counterparts from New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island for discussions about regional co-operation on workforce development and skills training, energy, and Atlantic Canada’s priorities within the federation.

“We’ve seen what is possible when our governments work together to improve the lives of Atlantic Canadians with initiatives related to apprenticeship training and workforce development,” said Premier McNeil. “I want to build on those successes by continuing to look for ways to be innovative and creative in how we approach the challenges and opportunities we face as a region.

“My objective is ultimately to position Atlantic Canada as a strong contributor to Canada.”

The meeting in Saint John will be chaired by New Brunswick Premier David Alward.
