That feeling of Donald Trump’s threat to annex Canada? ‘That is what First Nations people feel every day as our traditional lands and our rights … come under constant threat’
On Monday, June 2, I stepped out of the Queen’s Park subway station in Toronto and scurried across Avenue Road and onto the lawn of the Ontario legislature. There, I joined an echo of Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) voices straining to be heard through the walls of the legislature at a rally outside Queen’s Park.
Our voices were raised to the sky in hopes that our creator would have Doug Ford and his government reconsider their latest bill (Bill 5), which threatens the lives of First Nations people and the lives of the wild animals that still provide us sustenance.
