The Det’on Cho group of companies, which acts as the Yellowknives Dene First Nation’s economic development wing, has been named 2024’s Aboriginal Economic Development Corporation of the Year.
The award, from the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business, was handed out at a Toronto ceremony this week.
Det’on Cho president and chief executive officer Mark Lewis said the award “validates our approach to build and grow our corporation around Dene Laws, combining traditional knowledge with modern business practices.”
Det’on Cho says it now employs more than 300 people through a network of 22 associated companies. Its work is connected to the likes of mining, remediation, construction and aviation.
