DIVERSE NEW SCHOLARSHIP, FELLOWSHIP, INSIGHT DEVELOPMENT GRANT AND CANADA RESEARCH CHAIR RECIPIENTS PUSH BOUNDARIES OF KNOWLEDGE
The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Transport, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, has announced the “2022-2” Canada Research Chairs cycle, awarding 230 new and renewed chairs across 50 postsecondary research institutions, for a total investment of more than $191 million. The chairs contribute a wide array of research in subjects from healthy aging, nanomedicine, and climate change resilience, to agriculture, and Indigenous history and policy. The minister also announced 5,762 scholarship and fellowship recipients, receiving a total of $275 million through the Canada Graduate Scholarships Doctoral and Master’s programs and Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplements; the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Postgraduate Scholarships—Doctoral; the SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships; and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Doctoral Foreign Study Award. In addition, 577 emerging and established scholars received $35.3 million in 2023-24 Insight Development Grants. As well, $427 million was awarded to 148 postsecondary institutions through the 2023-24 Research Support Fund and Incremental Project Grants.
