Hydro One and nine First Nation partners received final approval for their environmental assessment report for the Waasigan Transmission Line by the provincial Environment, Conservation and Parks ministry on Tuesday.
The approximately 375-kilometre Waasigan power line will run from the Municipality of Shuniah to Dryden parallel to an existing power grid, using the preliminary preferred route that was selected in early 2023.
The line is expected to bring an additional 350 megawatts of electricity to the region to meet the current and future energy needs of Ontario’s northwestern communities.
