Press Release
POINT TUPPER, NOVA SCOTIA – EverWind Fuels (“EverWind”), Canada’s leading developer of green hydrogen and ammonia projects, is pleased to announce it has received Environmental Assessment Approval from the Nova Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change for the overhead transmission line that will cross the Strait of Canso.
This critical infrastructure will deliver clean, renewable electricity directly from EverWind’s Phase 2 onshore Wind Farms in the Municipality of the District of Guysborough and the Municipality of the District of St. Mary’s to EverWind’s Point Tupper facility located in the Municipality of the County of Richmond—powering Canada’s first industrial-scale green hydrogen and ammonia project.
This approval represents a major milestone for EverWind and paves the way for continued development and investment in Nova Scotia’s clean energy economy. The transmission line crossing is a key component of EverWind’s green fuels vision, enabling large-scale renewable generation and the decarbonization of heavy industry through green hydrogen and ammonia to replace fossil fuel usage.
Following approval of the transmission infrastructure, EverWind is preparing to register its Phase 2 Wind Farms for Environmental Assessment, beginning with Wind Farm 1 this summer, followed by Wind Farm 2 in late 2025, and Wind Farm 3 in early 2026. These wind farms will connect directly to EverWind’s Point Tupper facility, providing the renewable energy needed to produce green hydrogen and ammonia for export to international markets, as well as for domestic use.
The economic impact of this project will be significant to the local communities and municipalities. Construction of the transmission line is expected to create approximately 50 jobs over a six-month period, with up to four part-time, long-term local roles for operations and maintenance. The project will also generate indirect employment by increasing demand for local services such as hospitality, food, and retail. It is estimated that the project will result in approximately $40 million in investments to the province of Nova Scotia throughout all phases—strengthening the local economy and creating new opportunities for rural workers and businesses.
As part of its ongoing community engagement, EverWind will be back in the community soon to share a revised layout for Wind Farm 1. This will include updates based on the field studies and community feedback received to date.
In addition, EverWind is working with schools across the Municipality of the District of Guysborough on a student-led naming contest for Wind Farm 1. This fun and educational initiative invites students to help shape the future of renewable energy in their region and learn more about clean energy innovation close to home.
EverWind remains committed to transparent, ongoing engagement and ensuring that the long-term benefits of clean energy development are shared across the region.
