Finance Clerk

OVERVIEW:

The Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) requires a full-time Finance Clerk to join our finance team. Reporting to the Comptroller, the incumbent is responsible for broad financial accounting and administrative functions, including accounts payable and expense claims.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Ensures proper supporting documentation for accounts payable transactions including proper delegated signing authorities for purchase commitments
  • Data entry of accounts payable information including coding for review and approval by Comptroller
  • Data entry of cheque information for review and approval by Comptroller
  • Obtaining signatures of delegated signing authorities for payments
  • Reviews all credit balances, refunds, and adjustments, and applies adjustments and/or corrections to billing records
  • Reviews bills to the organization for potential errors and/or discrepancies
  • Investigates and resolves billing discrepancies or misapplied cash transactions; liaises with other departments
  • Forms payment strategies to make timely A/P payments and mitigate supplier objections
  • Ensures expense claims comply with the Finance and Administrative policies, including per diem and rates for mileage, meals and accommodations, proper receipts, and delegated signing authorities, etc. for review and approval by Comptroller
  • Sets up payments online to staff for review and approval by Comptroller
  • Provides coverage support within the finance department, including payroll functions
  • Other finance related duties as assigned

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certificate or Diploma in Accounting. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience providing administrative and accounting support in a high volume, fast-paced environment
  • Experience with and knowledge of accounting and administrative functions
  • Experience in the compilation of confidential documents and information
  • Experience with records management (physical and electronic files)
  • Extensive experience and proficiency in QuickBooks, SAGE, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to be an effective team player
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated time management skills to effectively work independently
  • Knowledge of and experience with payroll processes and functions would be considered an asset

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Must have a valid class 5 MB Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle as travel will be required
