What’s happening on (and off) Parliament Hill, plus the news you need to start your day.
Amid the ongoing swirl of speculation over whether the minority Liberal government will be able to secure the support of two opposition MPs — or, alternately, five agreed-upon opposition abstentions —that it needs to make it through the budget debate without ending up on the losing side of a confidence vote, MPs are set to weigh in on a Conservative-initiated call for the House to “reject” the plan unveiled by Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne that, as the Toronto Star reports, is expected to be introduced later this morning after party leader Pierre Poilievre inexplicably failed to introduce an amendment at the close of his response to the budget yesterday afternoon.
“Traditionally the official Opposition leader has proposed the main budget amendment,” the Star notes.
