Press Release
Jun 13, 2025
Dear Valued Members and Stakeholders,
As we wrap up another quarter, I’m pleased to share key updates and initiatives that reflect the Fund’s ongoing commitment to supporting First Nations communities.
The second quarter was a productive and eventful period for our team. In early April, we attended the NATOA (National Aboriginal Trust Officers Association) conference in Winnipeg, where Trustee Errol Wilson participated in a panel hosted by TD Wealth Indigenous Trust Services. The session, titled Trustee Plans for Tomorrow’s Trust, explored forward-looking strategies for trust management and how trustees can remain effective and relevant in a rapidly evolving landscape.
Later in April, Fund staff and Trustees gathered at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino for a two-day strategic planning session. This collaborative effort brought together a range of perspectives to chart a path toward the Fund’s self-sufficiency. Discussions focused on the impacts of reform, our current market position, regional engagement strategies, and the ongoing efforts on the transfer of FNMHF to First Nations control.
In May, I had the honour of participating in a panel at the 2025 Sustainable Finance Summit in Montreal. The session, Sustainable Reporting: A Transformative Lever for Global Finance, convened leaders from across the financial sector to discuss the growing importance of sustainability reporting. I spoke on how the FNMHF, as a trust, incorporates our First Nation values into our Investment Policy. I also spoke about how reconciliation with First Nation people should be considered when ESG standards are being developed. It was a privilege to contribute to this important dialogue.
Looking ahead, we’re proud to sponsor the 2025 Manitoba Indigenous Summer Games in July. This initiative aligns with our goal of building stronger connections with Indigenous youth and increasing awareness of homeownership solutions among Gen Z. It represents a strategic opportunity to deepen engagement in the region and reinforce the Fund’s mission.
This season also brings key events that will allow us to strengthen relationships and share progress. We’re excited to participate in the Assembly of First Nations Annual General Assembly (AFN AGA) in Winnipeg, and we look forward to attending the Lands Advisory Board (LAB) Annual General Meeting in August, also in Winnipeg.
Thank you for your continued support and engagement. We encourage you to stay connected. Follow us on social media and reach out to our team to learn more about upcoming opportunities and resources. We remain committed to advancing your goals and working together to help First Nations communities thrive.
Sincerely,
Travis Seymour, FCPA, FCGA, MBA, CAFM
