An eastern Alberta First Nation has signed a letter of intent showing its support for an Indigenous group focused on purchasing a majority stake in the Trans Mountain pipeline.
Frog Lake Cree Nation’s chief and council have signed an intent to join the Western Indigenous Pipeline Group (WIPG). The group is focused on bringing together voices of different Indigenous groups under a single umbrella to purchase the contentious pipeline and expansion project running from Edmonton to the B.C. coastline.
“This agreement will help provide our community with opportunities for future generations, while enabling Frog Lake Cree Nation to secure much needed own-source revenues to assist with pressing community needs during these trying times,” said Chief Greg Desjarlais in a Wednesday news release.
