ADK Holdings Ltd.’s Geothermal Energy Development project in the Northwest Territories has received an investment of more than $2 million through the federal government’s Clean Energy for Rural and Remote Communities (CERRC) program.
The project, by Acho Dene Koe First Nation’s economic development corporation, will identify opportunities for geothermal resource development, and support Indigenous communities transition to renewable energy. It will also reduce the use of diesel for heating, create jobs, and enable economic development in the Echaot’l Koe, NT (Fort Liard) region.
The Wah-ila-toos Indigenous Council, an Indigenous Council made up of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit climate change subject matter experts, recently released Kinship and Prosperity: Proven Solutions for a Clean Energy Landscape to help guide the transition to clean energy in Indigenous, rural and remote communities.
The CERRC program funds renewable energy and capacity building projects to reduce reliance on fossil fuels for heating and electricity in Indigenous, rural and remote communities.
