Greenstone Gold Mines – Update July 11th, 2022

Planned activities for the week of July 11th include on-going Earthworks within the Tailings Management Facility, drilling, blasting, foundation work and the start of steel erection for various buildings within the Plant Site area, drilling, blasting and placement of rock for the Highway 11 Realignment, and the installation of power lines.

What’s coming next:

Greenstone Mine will be conducting scheduled blasts within the Project Area and within the Highway 11 Realignment Area. Blasting will occur on a regular basis during the construction and operations phases of the Project. Blasting Notices are posted on the website homepage. Enbridge Gas Inc. (EGI) blasting notices will be posted on the Greenstone Mine website homepage. Greenstone Mine is not responsible for any EGI blast delays or cancellation that are not reflected on the website homepage.

‘No Trespassing’ signs within the former Barton Bay Trail area due to work activities being undertaken for the construction of the Highway 11 Realignment have been installed for everyone’s safety as this work continues. With the MHT pump well building in place, pumping of historical tailings water to the Temporary Effluent Water Treatment Plant is underway. Earthworks in the Kenogamisis Pit, located North of Highway 11 behind Between Bridges Inn, will continue with loading and hauling of pit run material to the future Plant Site area as needed with some blasting. Concrete installation is on-going within the future Process Plant west end and steel erection continues. Power Plant steel erection and cladding continue. Structural steel erection for the Truck Shop continues with ongoing structural pre-assembly and cladding to continue. Interior work for the Effluent Water Treatment Plant continues. First and second floor complexing of the Administration Building is complete with work on the final touches ongoing. The building is expected to be operational in mid-July. Temporary and permanent power line work continues in the Plant Site and TMF areas.

Ongoing hauling of material from the S4 Aggregate Pit to the Goldfield Creek Dam. Some management of water in both the Tailings Management Facility (TMF) and Goldfield Creek areas is ongoing. Construction of the sand blanket and various water retention ponds and ditches within the TMF is ongoing.

Work will continue on the Highway 11 widening near the Main Access Road and future MTO Patrol Yard. Work is expected to take a few more weeks with lane reductions in place for some of that time. Traffic management protocols will be in place according to Ontario Ministry of Transport requirements. Please obey the signals of all flagpersons.

Drilling, blasting and crushing within the future Highway 11 Realignment footprint (west side) will continue. Placement of materials continues east of Michael Power Boulevard. With the Michael Power Boulevard Crossing in use, motorists are asked to obey the 60 km/h maximum speed limit and to proceed with caution. Work within the future MTO Patrol Yard continues with pouring of Sand Dome walls and forming Salt Shed walls underway. Structural steel erection of the Garage Office within the future MTO Patrol Yard will continue.

Mine mobile equipment continues to arrive. Assembly of the first mine haul truck continues.

Construction in and around Greenstone Mine involves the use of heavy equipment such as zoom booms, cranes, drills, excavators, skidders, wood chippers, bulldozers, tri-axle haul trucks, articulated trucks and loaders. For health and safety reasons, we caution the general public to follow and obey all posted signs across the Project area.

The safety of our employees, contractors and the general public is paramount as we construct the Greenstone Mine.

Work on the construction of Enbridge’s 13 kilometre (km) 6-inch diameter steel natural gas pipeline to provide the project with clean, affordable natural gas has started.
