Indigenous Buying Group Launches New Initiative To Boost Jobs and Revenue in Communities

Press Release

[Saugeen First Nation, ON, Nov 7, 2024] – Indigenous Buying Group (IBG) proudly announces the launch of its Community Builder Initiative—a transformative program that delivers skills training, job creation, and economic benefits within First Nations communities. Created in response to community demand for a membership option that supports local entrepreneurship, this initiative enables communities to increase revenue and invest in local talent.

Through the Community Builder Initiative, each participating community selects a representative—ideally an individual on income assistance with entrepreneurial ambitions—who receives comprehensive training in sales, marketing, and account management. IBG’s team collaborates with these representatives to develop tailored sales strategies, maximizing revenue through the community’s branded e-commerce platform and keeping more economic benefits within the community.

“The Community Builder Initiative is a direct response to what communities have told us they need: an opportunity to put someone to work while generating additional revenue,” said Steven Vanloffeld, Anishinaabe citizen of Saugeen First Nation and Founder and CEO of Indigenous Buying Group. “We’re addressing leakage, putting money back into the community, creating jobs, and helping to drive economic development.”

IBG Platform Highlights:

  • Streamlined Purchasing: Access over 50,000 products, including furniture, technology, office supplies, cleaning, and industrial products—all essential for community operations.
  • Cost Savings: Communities benefit from highly competitive pricing through group purchasing, offering rates that rival big-box retailers.
  • Quarterly Rebates: Boost financial returns with quarterly rebates—up to $195,000 or more annually.
  • Revenue Generation: Earn even more by selling products to governments, industries, and Canadians.

A recent report reveals that First Nations communities spend an average of $1.3 million annually on essential supplies, with over $1 billion leaving communities each year. IBG’s mission is to reverse this trend, helping communities retain revenue and support their own economic goals.
