Indigenous Curatorial and Marketing Assistant

$19.00/hour | 30 hours per week

September 28, 2020 – March 31, 2021, with a two week break from Dec 20 – Jan 3

(Internship period: 24 weeks and 2 days)

Griffin Art Projects seeks applications for the position of Indigenous Curatorial and Marketing Assistant. Reporting to Director, and assisting the Gallery Manager, the Indigenous Curatorial and Marketing Assistant will provide assistance with the development and execution of our ongoing public programs, outreach, and marketing efforts, with a particular focus on bringing Indigenous perspectives to Griffin’s activities, initiatives and operations. Griffin Art Projects is a small team environment and this role will provide assistance and guidance with a wide range of arts administration tasks such as operational support, registrar duties, audience development, program research, planning and delivery. Through this project, Griffin Art Projects aims to increase the strength and reciprocity of its relationships with local community groups, particularly Indigenous communities on the North Shore. The ideal candidate for this position will be a recent graduate from a Bachelor or Masters degree in fine arts, design, Indigenous studies or related field. They will have excellent organizational and planning skills with the demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines. Competency in Microsoft Office is required and experience preparing design materials with the Adobe Creative suite, or an interest and willingness to learn these skills, is an asset. The ideal candidate will have excellent verbal, written and visual communication skills, as well as the ability to work with diverse community groups, including Indigenous communities and youth.

This position is funded by the Government of Canada’s Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations program. In order to meet eligibility requirements, applicants must be:

  • A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • Between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
  • Willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
  • Not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with the program;
  • Unemployed or underemployed;
  • A college or university graduate;
  • Not receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed with the program; and

have not previously participated in or been paid under this or any other Career Focus internship program funded under the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy.

Griffin Art Projects (GAP) is a non-profit art gallery and residency located in North Vancouver devoted to supporting artists in the production of new work through its residency program, and in creating new research on contemporary Canadian and international art, artists and art collections from around the world in its exhibition program. GAP is a non-collecting institution that has quickly become a vibrant contributor to the North Vancouver cultural landscape.
