“We want answers, clear answers,” Georges-Hervé Awashish’s cousin said on Wednesday. “This can’t continue this way.”
In the wake of Joyce Echaquan’s death, Georges-Hervé Awashish wrote to his cousin from his hospital room in Chicoutimi, where he had told his family he overheard nurses making racist and discriminatory remarks.
“I will be heard too,” Awashish, 53, wrote on Oct. 7.
Four days later, Awashish died in hospital. His family, now awaiting autopsy results, wants to shed light on the treatment he received before his death.
“We want answers, clear answers,” his cousin, Maylène Weizineau, said on Wednesday. “This can’t continue this way.”
