Indigenous workforces and company owners considered by City of Saskatoon when awarding contracts
The City of Saskatoon is leading the way by including Indigenous participation when awarding contracts, despite lingering uncertainty over the initiative, city council’s finance committee heard.
Since December, the city has included Indigenous employment and ownership as factors when purchasing goods and services from vendors.
The city has included Indigenous content in 12 requests for proposals (RFPs) so far and awarded three contracts that included Indigenous evaluation criteria, the city’s director of supply chain management, Scott Eaton, told the committee on Monday.
“Some vendors have expressed concern over the inclusion of Indigenous participation criteria in the city’s RFPs,” Eaton said.
