Indigenous services, CIRNAC fail to spend $5.6B from last year’s budget – APTN News

In total, federal departments failed to spend $38 billion on promised programs and services last year.

Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) and Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) along with other federal government departments failed to spend tens of billions of dollars in the last fiscal year on promised programs and services, including new military equipment, affordable housing and support for veterans.

ISC failed to spend $3.4 billion while CIRNAC returned $2.2 billion to the federal treasury.

Spokesperson Vincent Gauthier attributed much of the latter lapse to “the timing and progress of negotiations for specific claims and childhood litigations”, adding that funds will available “in some instances” in future years.
