Intergovernmental Meeting between Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government and Government of the Northwest Territories

Délı̨nę, NT (April 24, 2025) – Premier R.J. Simpson, Deputy Premier Caroline Wawzonek, Minister Caitlin Cleveland, Minister Lucy Kuptana, Minister Vince McKay, and Minister Lesa Semmler met with the Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government Ɂekw’ahtı̨dǝ́Danny Gaudet, Ɂekw’ahtı̨Raymond Taneton Délı̨nę K’aowǝdóKǝ members, Leonard Kenny, Jonas Modeste, Christopher Yukon, Georgina Dolphus, Dora Blondin and Marion Mackeinzo (Elders Representative) on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

The meeting focused on areas of mutual interest, including:

⦁ Focusing the relationship within a modern treaty self-governing context.

⦁ Continuing regular discussions as part of the NWT Council of Leaders to work together to help advance nation building projects in the NWT that will contribute to
Canada’s economic resilience, arctic security, and sovereignty.

⦁ Working together to advance the Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government’s vision for health and wellness in the community and ensuring federal partners are part of this work.

⦁ Collaborating on opportunities to advance housing options in Délı̨nę, including through accessing federal programming.

⦁ Prioritizing the hiring and career advancement of Indigenous persons in the public service and addressing the challenges of Indigenous recruitment and retention through a multi-faceted approach that includes improving education, enhancing cultural competence, and implementing supportive policies and programs.

This was the sixth meeting of the two governments and continues to build on the strong relationship by collaborating and addressing key issues impacting Délı̨nę residents.

⦁ The Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding recognizes the importance of the government-to-government relationship between the Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government and the Government of the Northwest Territories.

⦁ The agreement commits both governments to meet at least once per year.

⦁ The Intergovernmental Memorandum of Understanding between the Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government and the Government of the Northwest Territories was signed in June 2019 for a four-year term, and was renewed for a four-year term in November 2023.
