After surprising Official Ottawa with a virtual reveal of a new front-bench lineup yesterday morning — a move that, as reported by iPolitics, was triggered by now-former Innovation minister Navdeep Bains’ decision to retire from federal politics at the next election, with two veteran cabinet ministers, Marc Garneau and François-Philippe Champagne, taking on new roles at Global Affairs Canada and Industry, respectively, as well as the addition of Toronto-area MP Omar Alghabra to the roster at Transport — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will spend the day ensconced in “private meetings.”
Although his official itinerary doesn’t provide a minute-by-minute overview of his plans, it does include a few key names on his call list, including Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who served notice yesterday of a 28-day province-wide “stay-at-home order,” which will take effect at midnight tonight. Further restrictions will also be imposed on non-essential retail, business, and recreational activities.
