With just two days to go until his finance minister unveils a long-awaited “fiscal snapshot” — which, as Canadian Press notes, “will be the first public assessment” of both the state of Canada’s economy and the health of the federal treasury since the pandemic-imposed lockdown began in mid-March — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to hold a “virtual cabinet retreat” to go over the details with his front bench team. According to the official advisory, the remote meet-up — which gets underway later this morning — will focus on both the ongoing cross-country efforts to “safely restart the economy” while simultaneously getting ready for “a potential second wave of COVID-19,” as well as the need to “take concrete actions … to address discrimination and systemic racism in our institutions.”
