A Federal Bill which would have given Northern and Indigenous communities more control over climate-related infrastructure has been voted down.
Proposed by the NDP and blocked by the Liberals and Conservatives, the Bill would have modified the Canadian Infrastructure Bank’s mandate.
In control of $35 billion in federal funds, the CIB is responsible for distributing financial support to revenue-generating infrastructure projects.
Had the Bill passed, it would have eliminated their privatized, for-profit model, in order to prioritize the needs of Northern and Indigenous communities facing a climate crisis.
