Liberal leader, electoral reform, government spending, health care, carbon tax, Indigenous and Palestinians and professional women’s hockey.
After reading the Star’s profiles of the four contenders for the leadership, I was most impressed with the qualifications and experiences of all the candidates; so, whom do I choose? I must admit I was somewhat alarmed at Bonnie Crombie’s desire to move the party right of centre and her declaration to consider opening up the Greenbelt to developers but she has backtracked on those points.
I am concerned about Yasir Naqvi and Nate Erskine-Smith’s pact to encourage their supporters to choose the other as their second choice in a bid to defeat Crombie. I don’t believe that either Naqvi or Erskine-Smith targeted Crombie because she is a woman but rather that she was, and still is, the front-runner.
Crombie has the credentials, her leadership experience as Mayor of Mississauga, name recognition, good ideas regarding health care, education and housing — so, I think that she is the best candidate to take on Doug Ford and his Tory Government.
