Press Release
November 03, 2022 – Kuujjuaq, Nunavik – Today, Makivvik adopts an Inuktitut-only Logo. The logo has already displayed Makivvik in Syllabics for many years, but will now also reflect this spelling as Roman Orthography under the syllabics. This change reflects Makivvik’s efforts to correct typographic errors in our material.
These changes were mandated during Makivvik’s last Annual General Meeting held in April 2022 in Kangirsuk, and the modified logo was approved during the Makivik Board of Directors meeting this month.
Outside of the change in typography, small graphic changes have also been made to the logo. The figure in the logo has been slimmed and moved slightly to the right uncovering all Nunavik communities within the map.
Our quarterly publication, Tarralik, will also be spelled in a new way, correcting another past typographic error. Starting with the upcoming Issue 130, the publication will be going from Taqralik to Tarralik.
This is still a work in progress, but Makivvik is proud to move forward with presenting itself using its Inuktitut name. Work will continue in regard to modifying the Makivvik charter to officially adopt the corrected spelling in both the English and French spelling for Makivvik.
