Press Release
The Manitoba government brought together business, First Nations and labour leaders to discuss the ongoing trade relationship with the United States, Premier Wab Kinew announced today.
“Our government is doing important work to bring down interprovincial trade barriers and work with other provinces to build up this country we love so much,” said Kinew. “We want to continue the conversation with leaders across sectors in Manitoba to deal with the ongoing tariff situation and look for solutions to strengthen our own economy.”
The meeting featured discussion on the ongoing wildfire situation in Manitoba and a report back from the first ministers meeting, noted the premier.
Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation Minister Jamie Moses updated the council on the passage of Manitoba’s free trade legislation, new legislation to make it easier to trade with other provinces and territories, new funding to support research and attract American talent to Manitoba and the province’s work with Gerdau to mitigate impact of new steel tariffs.
The province continues to offer tax deferrals for businesses not only affected by the tariff situation but also the wildfire situation.
