Morning Brief: Chinese envoy lashes out at Canada – iPolitics

China’s ambassador to Canada says accepting Hong Kong refugees jeopardizes the safety of the thousands of Canadians living in Hong Kong, the Globe reports. “It is interference in China’s domestic affairs,” he said, calling the political refugees “violent criminals.” He also warned of some vague “forceful measures” China may take against Canada, related to Canada’s stance on China’s human rights abuses.

Liberal MPs continue to stonewall two House of Commons committees with marathon filibusters to avoid votes that would reopen the WE Charity investigation. They clearly want to move on from the scandal, but, if you’re an opposition member, it’s a move that signals blood in the water. “If it takes all night, if it takes all week, we will be here until the Liberals stop obstructing, stop interfering with work of Parliament,” NDP MP Charlie Angus said, while Conservative MP Michael Barrett called it a “cover-up.”
