Morning Brief: COVID is about to get a lot worse in Canada – iPolitics

Good Friday morning,

— We’re not out of the woods yet: New PHAC modelling shows that Canada could reach 60,000 COVID-19 infections a day by the end of next month, if Canadians ease off the social distancing and increase contact with others. If we maintain current numbers of contacts, including through the holidays, that could be limited to 20,000 cases a day. (Currently, we’re at 5,000 cases per day, and intensive care beds are almost full — so expect even more pressure on the healthcare system.)

In an effort to put aside partisanship and work together, the PM gave opposition leaders an advance look at the numbers in a confidential briefing with Canada’s top doctors yesterday. Not sure it achieved the desired effect.
