Jim Karahalios has been kicked out of the Conservative Party leadership race. Again.
The now two-time former leadership hopeful was disqualified just one day after winning a decision in the Ontario Superior Court that nullified his first removal.
Justice Paul Perell had ruled that the four-person committee of Conservative MPs who kicked him out of the race originally in March didn’t have the authority to do so. The proper body, the party’s Leadership Election Organizing Committee (LEOC), rendered their own verdict Thursday, disqualifying Karahalios again.
His initial removal from the race came after fellow candidate Erin O’Toole alleged he had made “racist Islamophobic remarks that besmirched the expressed principles of the Conservative Party” – as court documents say – about O’Toole’s campaign chair, Walied Soliman
