Morning Brief: MacKay not ruling out running for a seat – iPolitics

The Central Nova Conservative riding association is trying to push Peter MacKay into running as the Tory candidate for the riding in the next election, CBC reports. He says he is not ruling anything out at this point. The piece points out MacKay still has roughly $1 million in campaign debt left to deal with.

Tory insider Hamish Marshall writes for us why MacKay’s leadership bid was doomed from the start.

As he tries to woo Quebeckers under his big blue tent, Erin O’Toole said he plans to steer clear of the debate around Quebec’s Bill 21 (its controversial secularism law), while he supports an expansion of Bill 101 (its language law) to cover federally regulated companies. “We need a government that respects provincial autonomy and provincial legislatures,” he said, making a nod to the West at the same time. He also said he is open to giving Quebec greater powers over immigration and to increasing federal health transfers.
