— ‘Secret’ Spavor trial over after 2 hours: The detained Canadian Michael Spavor’s Chinese trial began — and ended — this morning. The trial, which Canadian diplomats were barred from attending, ended within two hours without a verdict or sentencing, which, according to The Globe and Mail, can be delayed for years. The trial coincided with U.S.-Chinese talks held yesterday, in which tensions ran high. More on that below.

Michael Kovrig’s trial is scheduled for Monday.
