The university will use the funding to support a range of new activities including creating an integrated Indigenous student welcome program, initiating an Indigenous student collective, developing a blended learning cultural competency training program for all staff and faculty, establishing an Indigenous Education Leadership Team comprised of representatives of the Coast Salish, Nuu-chah-nulth and Kwagiulth Nations and hosting a traditionally-inspired canoe race at the 2017 National Indigenous Day celebration.
“As we think about the rich culture, incredible history, challenging experiences post-contact and the tremendous potential of our Indigenous and Métis Nations on National Indigenous Day, we are reminded of our role in contributing to reconciliation every day,” says Associate Vice-President Student and Academic Services Roberta Mason.
