New Guidebook and Website Explore Indigenous Co-operative Business Development
SASKATOON, SK – On March 2, Co-operatives First announced the launch of “Your Way, Together a comprehensive guidebook to Indigenous co-operative development on First Nation and a website dedicated to Indigenous co-operative development.
The launch signals the start of a conversation by and for Indigenous people and communities to explore the potential benefits and opportunities of co-operative business development. Besides a download of the guidebook, the website offers a workshop, newsletter, articles, and case studies related to Indigenous co-operative development.
“Indigenous communities are growing, vibrant, and actively exploring opportunities to develop, strengthen, and prosper,” said Audra Krueger, Executive Director. “We hope to put the co-operative model within the context of these discussions and inspire a conversation.”
The guidebook is tailored for the diverse opportunities and challenges of starting co-operatives businesses on First Nation.
“The guidebook provides a pathway around common barriers,” said Trista Pewapisconias, member of Little Pine First Nation and Indigenous Engagement Lead at Co-operatives First. “For the questions it doesn’t answer, we offer suggestions and point to supports along the way.”
The free guidebook and other educational opportunities are available at www.yourwaytogether.ca.
