Northwestel Supports Yukon First Nations Graduation With Scholarships

Friday, May 23, 2014

Northwestel is partnering with the Yukon First Nations Graduation Society to support the 39th Annual Yukon First Nations Graduation Ceremony.

Northwestel donated $5,000 to the Society to help support the event. Of that donation, $1,000 was awarded to students in the form of two Northwestel Community Award scholarships.

“At Northwestel, we recognize the importance of investing in First Nations talent. By providing these scholarships, we hope to encourage students to continue their studies so they can be equipped with the skills they need to find future employment in the North,” said Northwestel Aboriginal Liaison Peter Johnston.

The Northwestel Community Awards are presented annually to two students for their significant contribution to their school community and for their involvement in school groups.

The graduation ceremony will take place on May 23rd at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre in Whitehorse.

Northwestel is also encouraging all graduates attending the ceremony to apply for the Northern Futures Scholarship. Up to six students pursuing post secondary education will receive $4,000 each and a paid internship at Northwestel.

More information can be found on Northwestel’s website at www.nwtel.ca/employment/scholarship.
